The process of buying a home is not only stressful but can feel like an eternity. Between getting the place inspected, appraised, getting your mortgage, price, closing costs and everything else… you’re exhausted. Then it’s time to finally move in and THAT’S when the real fun begins. Between all the things that must be running through your head and the lack of sleep you’ve probably been getting (believe us, we’ve been there), we decide to make a nice list to condense all the most important things you’ll need to take care of so you can knock everything off your to-do list.

Though before starting this list, you’ll want to prioritize the items on your list inspection report, as every home is different. Once those matters are taken care of, we can get started.

Get Familiar With Your New Home

Yeah, yeah, this might seem obvious, even self-explanatory – but there are a handful of things that you might not have thought of, especially with the number of tasks on your plate. To get started…

Learn where your main water shut off valve, gas shut-off valve, circuit box and sump pump are located. These are absolutely essential to know for when you have any water, gas or storm-related issues. Most of these are located either in your basement or garage.

Update Your New Home Address… Everywhere

This is certainly a hassle, but very important and the faster you get it out of the way, the better. Start by notifying your closest friends and family members in one swoop to ensure you don’t miss anyone important, then notify the post office and HR department at your job.

Start Shopping For Home Insurance

Next, you’ll want to protect your investment. Go shopping for the best rates from reputable insurances to find the best plan for you. Also, be sure to get acquainted with a licensed public adjuster so you can be prepared for even the worst of situations.

Connect Your Utilities

Contact your local utility companies, starting with the essentials like water, gas and electricity. Next, you’ll want to contact your local cable company for television and internet. P.S. We know how weird it feels to be in a home that isn’t connected. It’ll feel a lot more like home when this is done.

Make A Checklist Of Beautification Projects

Next, you’ll want to make a checklist of all the things that will make your home… yours. All of the things you envisioned when talking that first walk through the house, jot them down and prioritize which are most important. It may take months, or even years to get them all done, but at the very least it’ll be easier having a visual of what needs to be done.

Some common projects include (but are not limited to) replacing carpeting or flooring, painting siding, yard modifications.

Up Your Security Measures

Nothing quite makes you feel as safe as knowing you have reliable home security. This is a big step you should take, especially in select neighborhoods. To get started, you’ll want to visit your local hardware store and pick up some new locks. It’s best to switch out the locks on your front and back doors, as you never knew who had keys to your home before you moved in.

Then you’ll want to have duplicate keys cut so you can give them out to close friends and family.

Finally, consider having a home security system installed for that extra level of comfort and peace of mind. Most companies install free and have affordable monthly rates.

Plan For Emergencies

Every family needs a plan for the unexpected. It’s really important to have an evacuation plan for home fires, carbon monoxide threats and more. Plus you should take this time to stock important supplies such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, flashlights (with batteries) just to name a few.

Create A Maintenance Plan

Having a clear, transparent maintenance plan is the best way to create a sustainable schedule for the whole family. Things like cleaning your dryer hose/vent to prevent fires, draining your water heater, cleaning your gutters and keeping up with your refrigerator are all things that will keep you safe and save you money down the line. It’s best to delegate tasks upfront so everyone is clear on what their responsibilities are.

If you are a parent it is likely that at some point you have had dealings or interactions with youth sports leagues whether it be from your child’s school or local leagues within your community. A recent study noted that nearly 38% of kids age 6-12 are participating in some type of individual or team sport. These leagues are a great way for both youth and parents to be involved with the community and can have great benefits for both the child and others involved with these organizations. There are a variety of different sports available to youth and the opportunities only keep expanding.

Getting involved in sports is a great way for kids to get and stay active. Physical activity has numerous health benefits and being active just one day a week has great health benefits. It helps maintain healthy bones, muscles, and strengthen joints. It also helps control weight and reduces fat. With the childhood obesity rate continually on the rise and nearly 1 and 3 kids being affected, this is a great benefit. Research has also shown that it helps reduce the instances of diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic diseases in adulthood, and children who were involved in sports had ⅓ the disability rate later in life.

Children that participate in sports often have an increased awareness of their body and what it takes to maintain and keep it healthy. These kids tend to make healthier food choices and develop habits that they can carry throughout life. Adults that participated in youth sports are more likely to exercise and continue healthy choices throughout their lifetime.

Physical activity also has cognitive and educational benefits. Children that participate in organized sports are noted to have better academic success with higher test scores and overall grades versus those who didn’t participate in sports. Children that go on to play sports in high school are 15% more likely to attend college than non-athletes and also have a higher graduation rate. Once in the workplace, children that participated in organized sports typically saw higher annual earnings and increased overall productivity in the workplace.

Not only are physical and cognitive benefits noted, but participation in sports is also found to be linked to better mental health in teenagers and young adults and reduce stress and depression. Children that are not physically active are twice as likely to suffer from mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Lower suicide rates are also noted in physically active teens. Along with mental health, youth sports are also linked to other psychological benefits.

Taking part in youth sports helps you develop life-long skills such as increased self-esteem, the ability to receive criticism, work collaboratively with others, develop resiliency, and establish a strong work ethic.

  • Self-Esteem – Learning and perfecting a skill from hard work and determination helps boost self-esteem. Seeing your success and failures and the hard work needed all play a part in a higher self esteem.
  • Constructive Criticism – participating in sports will inevitably mean taking criticism from coaches, teammates, and even parents. Learning how to effectively handle this and resolve the conflict and reduce stress is a skill developed through youth sports that will translate into adulthood.
  • Teamwork – working collaboratively with others is essential in sports and especially team sports. Youth that are a part of a sports team learn how to communicate effectively with others and work together to achieve common goals.
  • Resilience – Success, and failures are all part of sports and even more a part of life. Youth sports teach children how to win and lose and the lessons from each situation.
  • Work Ethic – Sports require a commitment. Children that excel in them often spend hours on and off the field working to perfect their skills. This commitment requires time management, organization, and motivation and fosters a work ethic among kids that carries over into their adult lives.

Participation in these activities helps connect kids to other kids and develop friendships and a sense of belonging. Youth also get to witness volunteering and helping and serving in your community first hand with the coaches involved with these teams and organizations.

youth-based sports have been around for years and continue to evolve into a great foundation for many youth. Looking for ways to get your local business on the map? It may not be the easiest part of running your business, but it is very attainable with hard work and patience. Try these 8 tactics to get more customers through your doors!

Invest in Local SEO

When people want information, they ‘Google it’. Get your business in front of potential customers, boost your SEO profile by setting up your free Google My Business profile. This is equipped with your website, address, phone number, pictures, store hours and reviews that people can reference.

Community Relations

People generally love when businesses give back, especially to their communities. Partnering up with local charities and donating to good causes is a great way to put your local business in a positive light. Not only will your brand get local recognition, but they will be received in a positive light.

Run Social Media Contests

Consumers tend to prefer brands that are interactive. Social media algorithms tend to limit the reach of business pages and prioritize reach for personal pages. Run contests that encourage fans to post about your business. These posts tend to yield high engagement, which is ideal for local businesses.

Utilize Review Marketing

Yelp is one of the top platforms for customers to leave reviews, especially restaurants. In the world of reputation management, you can see this as a liability or an opportunity. Insufficient or negative reviews will deter new customers from giving your business a chance. The trick is accruing positive reviews. Not only will accruing positive reviews not deter potential business, it will actually bring you more customers than none at all! We recommend providing loyalty customers incentives, such as future discounts for leaving positive feedback on your review pages such as Yelp, Google and Facebook!

Run Events For Local Press

Local news has one thing that national news doesn’t and that’s the relevance of proximity! One thing that makes them appealing is their ability to feel more personalized. Businesses can utilize that by hosting events and asking the press if they want to cover it. TV, radio or social media coverage is a great way to get free exposure among the right publics.

Partner With Local Businesses

There’s one obvious thing you have in common with your neighbors… your location. With that said, you’re serving the same community, and while you might not have all of the same customers, word-of-mouth can be a vital part of your local marketing strategy.

Partnering with local businesses helps you reach each others’ customers, allowing you both to win. It’s even better if you can think of something that relates to both industries, that way you can bring the whole group together!

Organize + Participate in Networking Events

Piggybacking off of the idea of partnering up, network events are a great avenue for gaining exposure among potential business partners. Remember, it’s also about getting to know you and your brand, which can help create some great ideas. At the end of the day, your goal is to forge alliances, and that’s what you can do!

Run Digital Ads

Running ads on search engines and social networks can be a cost-effective way to reach your ideal customers and you can target them by location, too! Set targeted campaigns that promote local sales to increase brand awareness and foot traffic.

A thriving culture notorious for its art and music, it only makes sense that delicious brews would soon follow. Washington has slowly emerged as an absolute force in the artisan craft beer industry, which has taken the west coast by storm and its best breweries speak for themselves.

Narrowing the list to 10 wasn’t easy, so see what made these destinations breweries good enough to make the cut.

Name: Schooner Exact Brewing Co
Location: Seattle
Favorite Beer: ISE Kadoya Collab IPA

We very much consider Schooner to be a great local hangout. What better way to get a feel for Seattle culture? It features a good-sized venue fit for parties of all sizes but is compact enough for a cozy appeal. You can also find some great happy hour and app deals that make it fun and affordable.

Name: Seapine Brewing Company
Location: Seattle
Favorite Beer: Sea Witch Milk Stout

We love Seapine for its fun and inviting atmosphere (and their delicious beer too, of course)! The kid and pet-friendly taproom offers a calm and laid back energy that complements their wide selection of beers. We’re particularly fond of their stouts due to their perfect harmony of flavor and consistency.

Name: Bale Breaker Brewing
Location: Yakima
Favorite Beer: Bottomcutter IPA

For the feel of the great outdoors, we strongly suggest you pay Bale Breaker a visit. The farm-inspired venue is on a wide-open plot of land that resembles a large barn. As fun and unique as the location is, we get even more excited about the beers they make. As good as their year-long beers are, they’ll always excite you with awesome seasonal blends.

Name: Optimism Brewing Company
Location: Seattle
Favorite Beer: Wee Mighty

The one thing that stood out about Optimism was the really wide variety of beers. Sure, the taproom was nice, more or less run of the mill, but we decided to choose Optimism because of the palate. This is particularly special because anyone who likes beer of any kind will find something new to enjoy, from light beer people to those who enjoy barrel-aged treats.

Name: Chuckanut Brewery
Location: Bellingham
Favorite Beer: Dunkel Lager

Chuckanut is an (almost) European-themed brewery/food stop that is well-known in the area for its award-winning beer. Like the theme, much of the beer is inspired by German, Irish and English (among many other) traditions, giving it a nice niche and a unique experience.

Name: Machine House Brewery
Location: Seattle
Favorite Beer: Spelt IPA (B-Day Beer)

Machine House Brewery is perhaps one of our favorite spots to visit during the summer. It’s like the brewery version of a picnic, you can bring dogs, kids, and your own food. They have a nice selection of year-round beers, as well as seasonal specials that never disappoint. Not a big beer person? They usually have local cider available too, making it a fun spot in the fall as well.

Name: Stoup Brewing
Location: Seattle
Favorite Beer: Fabulous IPA

One of the more well-known breweries in Seattle, Stoup prides itself on delicious scientifically conjured beers and an energetic atmosphere to match. The excitement surrounding beer (brewing and drinking) is evident from the staff, which is the kind of place that we always find to be very exciting. You can hang out and drink at the taproom, or relax outside and grab something to eat from the food truck.

Name: Populuxe Brewing Company
Location: Seattle
Favorite Beer: Populuxe IPA

Populuxe is a smaller establishment, which usually means two things: they like to specialize and they pay A LOT of attention to quality. Both are true in this case and we’re totally on board. Because they’re a smaller name, they focus more on local fun like trivia, so it’s a cool place to just hang out once in a while. There are usually really good food trucks in the afternoon too and they rotate so it’s different every time.

Name: Ghostfish Brewing Company
Location: Seattle
Favorite Beer: Kick Step IPA

A truly beautiful and modern brewery, Ghostfish resembles something of a trendsetter in the artisan craft beer industry. Their beers and food are gluten-free, which set off a new style of brewing and honestly, you wouldn’t know the difference. It’s also a great spot for lunch or brunch with places to sit outside right in the city.

Name: https://propolisbrewing.com/
Location: Port Townsend
Favorite Beer: Salah Ale

If you like a good ale, you’ll LOVE Propolis Brewing! They have a huge variety of farmhouse and barrel-aged ales, all with super unique feels and aromas. Their large venue can hold tons of people and is considered one of the best spots to “sample” organic-like brews. Their beer takes a while to make and you can taste it.

One of America’s favorite traditions is having a good old fashion barbecue. How people conduct such events may vary in many ways, but the fundamentals at its core remain pretty consistent. Regardless of how you like to get your grill on, we’re going to outline what you’ll need for the perfect barbecue setup!

Let’s Start With The Grill

There’s been a long (seemingly never-ending) debate as to which is the superior grill: gas or charcoal. We’re going to tell you the truth (and it might hurt some of you), but the answer is neither. Both types have it’s sets of pros and cons and each serves more specific purposes that can make the lives easier of the owners, depending on what they cook and how they do things.

The real question is choosing the right tool for the job. That’s where we come in!

Pros of Charcoal

  • They Last Longer: Like most things, this is a double-edged sword. While gas grills tend to have more features, those very same bells and whistles tend to depreciate their lifespans while charcoal grills tend to live longer lives.
  • The Food Tastes Better: This is obviously subject to opinion, but most will agree that the flavor result is superior with charcoal. It’s the main things that justify the cons listed below.
  • The Smell of The Process: In my opinion, there’s no better feeling than cooking over a charcoal grill. The fumes just smell of summer and that’s something gas will never be able to replicate.

Cons of Charcoal

  • Things Can Get Messy
  • Cleaning and prepping a charcoal grill is typically dirtier, especially if you use old charcoal to save money. I expect to get dirty while prepping from the ash and coals and get cleaned up before its time to prep the food.
  • Inferior Flame Management
  • You can arrange the coals to fit what you’re trying to make, but it’s not the same as gas. You can simply turn the ignitor on/off and manage the flames with ease, while that is not possible on charcoal.

Pros of Gas

  • The Entire Process Is Easier
  • Everything from starting the flame, from cleaning the grill is simply more convenient. The grills tend to look nicer as well.
  • Propane is Cheaper Than Charcoal
  • Cost of fuel is cheaper for gas grills, which can save you a lot of money depending on how often you like to barbecue.
  • Temperature is Easier to Control
  • Back to flame management. Point, gas!

Cons of Gas

  • Grills Are More Expensive
  • While the fuel is cheaper, the models themselves tend to be more expensive. They also take more attention to maintain.

Preferred Brands for Gas & Charcoal

Which Is Best For You?

The truth is, it depends on you!

Grilling Accessories

Here’s what we recommend:

  • Spatula
  • Tongs
  • Basting Brush
  • Scraper
  • Thermometer

Party Activities!

While you’re cooking (and after the fact), you’re sure to have all kinds of things going on for a fun barbecue. More activities means more people can have fun.

Here are some favorites that can get anyone ready for a summer party:

#10 Course: Sequoyah National
City: Cherokee, North Carolina

If we had to describe Sequoyah National with one word, it’s fun. The course is 6600 yards, so while it might not be the longest course in the area, it makes up for it around the greens. It’s almost like a hybrid between a links and parkland course in the sense that there are few trees and fairly open fairways. We like getting the opportunity to get creative around the greens, and you get that opportunity here.

#9 Course: Tidewater
City: North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Tidewater is a course for good ball strikers. The long holes and fast greens can work both ways, either rewarding or punishing risk-takers, so bottom-line, this course can be your best friend on your best days or your worst enemy when you’re not playing particularly well. Either way, the long holes will not look highly on conservative play, so be sure to hit it hard when the opportunity arises.

#8 Course: Bald Head Island Club
City: Bald Head Island, North Carolina

When it comes to courses with natural beauty, Bald Head Island Club is what comes to mind in the Carolinas. Between the natural aesthetics and the animals that call it home, it really makes for an ideal course to play on a relaxing vacation.

#7 Course: Pinehurst #8
City: Pinehurst, North Carolina

Of Pinehurst’s 9 different golf‘>, this is our favorite, so much so that it made this very list. It’s not considered to be one of the most difficult courses, or most demanding, but it has a certain something that just makes it a fun experience, regardless of skill level. Their second course would be our next pick, so we figured we’d give them a special shoutout!

#6 Course: Grove Park Golf
City: Asheville, North Carolina

Unlike the Pinehurst #8, Grove Park is one of the more demanding courses in the area. Between the terrain and awkwardly positioned fairways and greens, there is no break where you can attack many pins, making every hole a grind. The possibilities around the greens alone are something to be considered, so if you’re a decent handicap, give it a shot.

#5 Course: May River Golf Club
City: Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina

May River is a must play, just don’t forget to bring your driver! This 7,200-yard par 72 was designed by none other than Jack Nicklaus and is known for its steep fairways and challenging conditions. There’s a bit of water around some of the greens, so bring your lob wedge too…9

#4 Course: Leopard’s Chase
City: Ocean Isle, North Carolina

Of all the Big Cat courses, this is the most recent. We find the Leopard’s Chase to have more variety as far as the clubs you’re going to be using. There is a fair amount of sand traps, some (but not a ton) of water, some long par 5s and short par 3s, making it the perfect course to test all of your skills

#3 Course: Wild Dunes
City: Isle of Palms, South Carolina

So there are 3 courses in total, and while they’re all fantastic, we’re here to talk about the links course. Designed by Tom Fazio, it’s considered to be one of the top links courses on the east coast. Right off the beach, the course is built for peak relaxation. Go there.

#2 Course: Old North State Club
City: New London, North Carolina

Talk about a beautiful course- Old North made it to number 2 on our list for a reason. The back 9 is especially gorgeous, with greens right off the water. Naturally, you’ll have to be careful with your approach shots, but the aesthetics are second to only one in the area. Seriously, the views are amazing.

#1 Course: Tiger’s Eye
City: Sunset Beach, North Carolina

There’s one more Big Cat course for our list. Are you ready to chase more birdies? This place is insane, it’s designed from a pine forest and is known for its drastic changes in elevation throughout the course. The beauty does come with its set of challenges. You have to really think and make your shots to avoid penalties, though even if you don’t play great, you’ll still have a wonderful time.

Florida is considered one of the best places to play golf in the United States. The year-long beautiful weather and reputation for being the state of relaxation make it one of the go-to destinations for teeing up. Take a look at our 10 favorite golf courses to try if you find yourself in Florida!

#10 – Fox Hollow Golf Club

Aside from its beauty, Fox Hollow does something else for us. It’s not the most famous place to play, but we love the architecture of the course. The par 71 course features a fun bit of everything for all kinds of players.

#9 – Orange County National Golf Center

We see Orange County Center as such a fun, underrated course, which makes it appealing for a couple of reasons. Not only is the quality of the course up there, but you also don’t have the crazy crowds you might have from another course. The Crooked Cat Course has a lot of open spaces and obstacles that make the course challenging without being too troubling.

#8 – Walt Disney Golf Course

Just about everyone can feel that sort of magic around Disney and the golf course is no exception! There are 4 courses in total, each with their own types of theme. The Walt Disney Golf Course is ideal for golfers on an extended vacation, but would be just as fun for anyone in the area because of the variety of courses.

#7 – TPC Tampa Bay

Without saying anything, we already know TPC Tampa is going to be a challenging, but very fun course to play. The par 71 is just under 7000 yards and is filled with wonder. Don’t be fooled by the fairly open landscape. TPC Tampa has its share of sand traps and bodies of water, so you might want to play conservative (especially on the 8th hole).

#6 – Hammock Dunes Club Links Course

Hammock Dunes is loved by locals and visitors alike. It presents yet another fun, challenging course to try. This course made our list because of its balance – the holes aren’t easy, but they also provide that relaxing feeling that just captures your interest. The views are beautiful, whether you tee off in the morning, or dawn, so enjoy it!

#5 – World Woods G.C.

It’s hard to go wrong with Pine Barrens. A lot of the challenges come with the fairly narrow fairways and varying wind conditions that can make the need to scramble probable. It’s a beautiful course that will force you to enjoy every shot, just as long as you’re doing your best off the tees.

#4 – PGA National Resort & Spa

The home of the Honda Classic is admired around the world as an incredible golf course. This course is known for “The Bear Trap”, which is a string of holes on the back 9 that cause chaos. The course itself is very difficult, but one of those courses that you just have to try.

#3 – Bay Hill Club & Lodge

Bay Hill is not only an unbelievable course but was also the home of golf’s greatest ambassador, Arnold Palmer. Home to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Bay Hill is considered to be a tour favorite. The iconic course is known for the back 9 which has demonstrated loads of drama over the years.

#2 – Streamsong Resort Red

Streamsong consists of 3 amazing courses (the blue, red, and black). We think the black is the best of them all, at a par 73 is known for their unique holes and interesting modern architecture. While the black might be our favorite, we’d still suggest trying all 3 courses to get the full experience.

#1 – TPC Sawgrass

What can you really say? TPC Sawgrass is one of the greatest and most respected golf courses in the country, not just the east coast. It’s known for its iconic 17th hole with the island green that has made history. The 2019 Players Championship was played at TPC Sawgrass.

]]>
The world of boating is changing and for many, electric motors are the future. But not for everyone, so here’s what you need to know when shopping for a new boat (electric vs. gas).

Pros of Electric Boats

You Can Fish Like a Ninja
Electric motors are known to be so much quieter than gas. This allows you to navigate through the waters without disturbing wildlife. This means you can get around without scaring any fish away, leaving you with more (and better) opportunities to get that catch that impresses your friends. For certain types of fish, slow and steady wins the race and it can only be achieved with an electric boat.

It’s Environmentally Friendly
Of course, electric boat motors are much better for the environment when compared to gas propulsion. This is just one reason why many local community lakes mandate electric boats for their homeowners’ associations.

They’re Great For Community Lakes
Between electric propulsion engines being so much cleaner and quieter than gas, lake homeowners associations make them a must. So if you want a lakefront home, there’s a really good chance that you’ll have to go with electric, so you can be courteous to your neighbors and local waters.

They’re Becoming Much More Affordable
Because the prices of lithium-ion batteries are falling, electric propulsion engines are becoming a more viable option for more and more people. For this reason, people are seeing more and more electric cars on the road as well. Just about every car brand has at least one electric model, with other companies like Tesla relying exclusively on electric engines.

Maintenance is Easier
There are no pistons in an electric engine, so there’s no need to change the oil or check the gas. As a result, there is also no need to winterize an electric engine for our friends on the east coast, so the whole beginning/end of boating season process is seamless compared to that of a gas boat owner. This is especially useful for that “in-between” time of year, which is when every time you go out, you never really know if it is your last time of the year. Of course, once you winterize your motor, that’s it for the year. Not having to winterize can certainly help you get out on the water for that “nice freak weekend in November”.

Cons of Electric Boats

They’re Not As Powerful
Naturally, gas boat engines are stronger than electric, so users can go much faster and farther without the need to recharge or fuel up. Of course, gas engines are better suited for larger bodies of water and choppier waters (like the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans).

Replacement Parts May Be Harder To Find
Electric boat motors are a little more unique in their design. While this typically leads to more innovative results, it can also be more problematic if things go wrong. Like anything else, the more common the motor/design is, the more available the parts will be (like engine parts for American/Japanese cars). Expect the parts to become more accessible in the future, but for the time being hope your motor stays intact.

Diagnosing Problems Aren’t Always As Easy
And boat mechanics aren’t as widely available as there would be for gas engines. For the same reason that parts are harder to find, there will be fewer mechanics that have the know-how to fix them.

Takeaways

It’s not necessarily which is better, but more of what is best for your specific needs. So in this case, it really boils down to having the right tool for the job. If you’re sailing across oceans off a coast, you’ll be better off with gas. Lakes? You’ll definitely want to consider electric for the cost and performance benefits.

The PGA has been gaining traction and is heating up more than ever. A sport that was once dominated by few is now becoming more competitive and entertaining. Below are the 15 PGA Tour players that we think will be the most successful and entertaining.

Cameron Champ

Current World Ranking: 81

Cameron Champ might be one of the most exciting young players to enter the game, after putting on several shows at the end of the 2018 season. He has the most distance from anyone on tour. Not to mention that he might have the coolest name in the game. To put the Champ’s potential into perspective, he managed to hit a ball out of bounds and STILL manage to make par at Kapalua.

Hideki Matsuyama

Current World Ranking: 28

We believe 2019 will be a big year for Hideki. He had a great start to 2018 and kind of started to drop off, but he’s made some promising steps towards a stronger 2019. We’ve seen some more consistent drives and better approach shots, which will be sure to up his changes for future competitions.

Jordan Spieth

Current World Ranking: 17

After what many would call a disappointing 2018, Jordan Spieth is coming into 2019 hot. To be fair, Spieth is playing at very high standards after winning 3 majors and a Fedex Cup in 3 years. Having a bit of a dry spell after such success can lead people to ask questions, but it happens. Many believe the mental portion of his game was affected after the 2016 Masters loss, though that was a time away now. This is his time to rise.

Tony Finau

Current World Ranking: 10

Arguably the most consistent player on tour last year, Tony Finau amazed fans with 19 top 10 finishes in the last two seasons. He’s still looking for his second PGA Tour victory, but we have as much confidence in Finau as anyone for being a major contender in the 2019 season. His golf mechanics are next to none as result.

Tommy Fleetwood

Current World Ranking: 13

We saw a tremendous rookie year from the English sensation in 2018 and we expect even more! Tommy made the European Ryder Cup Team in just his first season and wowed spectators with his fairway drives and consistent short game.

Henrik Stenson

Current World Ranking: 27

We were surprised to see that Henrik Stenson entered 2019 as ranked only 27th in the world. Despite a slight decline in performance, Stenson finished the 2018 season on a high note, finishing back-to-back top 5s and having a prominent role in winning the Ryder Cup for Team Europe. There’s no doubt that Stenson is one of the best players in the world and should never be counted out.

Bryson DeChambeau

Current World Ranking: 5

What can we say about Bryson DeChambeau’s breakout 2018 season? Bryson has made headlines that transcend his scorecard – he’s an active thought-leader of the game who introduces ideas that are inspired by physics, bringing science to the game. Using his sharp calculations with his precision swing has yielded him some excellent results. He finished the season with 4 victories and a second place finish for the FedEx Cup! He’s had a lot to say about the new rules implemented this year, so it will be fun to see how he and the rest of the tour adapts.

Thorbjorn Olesen

Current World Ranking: 43

Are you noticing a trend? Young players are making a greater impact than ever before. Olesen made a splash on the European Tour and might make a transition to the USA. While he’s had plenty of success with Links Golf, he’s proven himself elsewhere. We think Olesen will make a run for a top 25 world ranking spot in 2019.

Dustin Johnson

Current World Ranking: 3

We couldn’t make a list of people to watch for without Dustin Johnson! He’s arguably the best player in the world and will be looking to retake the world number one ranking this season. In 2018, DJ has a Tour-leading 12 top-10 finishes in only 20 starts. The most success was found earlier in the season, where he dominated the field with 3 top 4 finishes in the first month of the season, including an opening win at the Tournament of Champions;. With some of the issues in his personal life seeming to be behind him, look for DJ to make a charge as top dog again.

Xander Schauffele

Current World Ranking: 6

Xander Schauffele is one of the most promising young golfers on the planet. He’s already had 12 top 5 finishes in the past 3 seasons, including 4 tour victories. He won the Sentry Tournament of Champions to start the 2019 season and isn’t showing any signs of looking back.

Billy Horschel

Current World Ranking: 36

Nothing defines Billy Horschel more than an overall solid player. He has an arsenal of tools that allow him to stay competitive. He missed a string of cuts in 2018, but has shown promise in the past 6 months. We see Horschel as a dark horse of the PGA Tour.

Brooks Koepka

Current World Ranking: 2

The man that one back-to-back US Opens is bound to have a big 2019. Big Brooks has shown immense poise on the big stage and has resulted in a world number 1 ranking (now 2), but we have no reason to doubt he won’t one day return.

Justin Rose

Current World Ranking: 1

The current world number 1 is one of the most complete players in the world. After his tremendous efforts in The Open Championship really propelled the end of this season. He was a major component of Team Europe’s impressive Ryder Cup win and will be a force for years to come.

Justin Thomas

Current World Ranking: 4

There’s a reason why Justin Thomas has been a top 6 ranked player since the 2017 Bridgestone Invitational. He’s consistent and lacks a clear weakness. Look for Thomas to win at least 2-3 tournaments in 2019!

Tiger Woods

Current World Ranking: 14

The man is back! Tiger Woods’ 2018 season was his best since 2013 and his health has shown to be consistent since getting his spinal fusion surgery. Woods will most likely win a major this year (we’re guessing he’ll come up big in Augusta) and we map these projections from his performance in the Open Championship and PGA Championship. In addition to surgery, his performance is likely attributed to his healthy lifestyle.

Winter is approaching, which means it’s starting to get cold and when it gets cold, people want to travel somewhere nice and warm. The truth is, there are tons of warm places to visit, but where are the best places to go? Between beautiful weather and fun things to do, we have some of the top destinations that are ideal for your preference in temperature and budgets.

Barcelona, Spain

Talk about things to do – Barcelona has more than beaches. The city is beautiful with its classic gothic design and there are so many land and water attractions that you’ll never be able to do it all. Even if you want to stray from the 20-something beaches, you can embrace the history of the city. Go Barcelona futbol!

Barbados

Barbados has never been as easy (or affordable) to get to than it is today! Jetblue now has a direct flight from Boston! The white sand beaches and incredibly blue seas are covered with gorgeous palm trees. There are a couple of nice places to eat and drink along the water. What more can you want?

Tulum, Mexico

Tulum is the ideal scene for those tropical calendars. The breathtaking views are enough to win over the hearts of so many guests and the animals only make it more incredible. The giant sea turtles are among the favorite attractions, then thera are the pre-Columbian Mayan ruins. There is so much history, all accessible for less than $10! Finish your trip with some fun aquatic adventures and delicious drinks/meals at their well-known bars and restaurants.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Possibly one of the best and most fairly priced destinations for just relaxing. In addition to the beautiful white sand and clear water, beaches are excellent bars and restaurants. These include bars with incredible service, all for an affordable price. You’ll probably pay more in travel than anything.

Catalina Island, California

There’s a reason Catalina is growing in popularity and that’s because of its natural beauty and general convenience. Just about an hour from California’s Pacific coast is a beautiful destination with all of the aquatic exploration opportunities you can handle. Have you seen a sea lion up close? They’re just one wonder that can be experienced in the wonderful island of Catalina.

The Bahamas

Who wouldn’t love a trip to the Bahamas? Just a short trip from Florida, you can be lounging in just a few hours. If you enjoy exploring (especially in the water), this is your spot. People always rave about the snorkeling! Seeing the sea creatures in such clear water is a sight to see!

Caladesi Island, Florida

Considered one of the United States’ remaining “secret islands”, Caladesi has 3 miles of sandy beaches. There are no cars or hotels, so its reachable via ferry for a day of fun, which is great for complimenting other Floridian-based vacations.

San Diego, California

Arguably the best and most consistent weather year-round, San Diego offers an abundance of fun for all visitors! There are tons of amazing beaches that are great for anything from lounging to surfing, fun stores, trails and let’s not forget the zoo! This trip is perfect for families.

Las Vegas, Nevada

What could be a better party spot than Sin City itself? Between the casinos and live entertainment (not to mention the fact that the Golden Knights are now there and the Raiders are coming). You can be in Vegas for a whole week and do something different every day, all casinos on the strip are tons of fun, with some of them being more affordable than you might suspect! Let’s not forget that you can drink ANYWHERE on the strip!

Panama

Panama is arguably the most underrated winter destination, as it tends to fly under the radar. It might be a little more difficult to get to Panama because of the smaller demand, but can be so worth it upon arrival. Fewer people means a more exclusive and memorable experience, which can be shared with your friends and family. People view the beaches as a fun alternative to more common destinations, especially if you’ve already visited places like Cancun.

Puerto Rico

Even after the devastating Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico still stands as one of the top vacation destinations. Affordable resorts are all over and there’s a list of fun things to do for vacations of any length. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous and the convenience of not needing a passport (for Americans) is just another perk that makes Puerto Rico an ideal destination for winter vacations.

The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys presents a list of fun destination, but together makes up the best place to escape the cold weather. With over 120 miles of land, “the keys” is well-known as a fun party destination for people of all ages, though heavily occupied by younger, college-aged people. Also known as an affordable alternative to some other vacation spots, there are so many fun things to do all with consistent weather. When it rains, it’s not for long, letting you spend the rest of your time on the beach, or in the water.
